Hunan Province hotels & places to stay

If it weren't for the customer service manager Bob Naresh, I would have given customer service a 2 for effort. The hotel is not geared to Englislh-speaking travelers. The concierge can hail a taxi, but that's about it (in English). We gave up asking them for advice, guidance or information. Even translators did not work for either sides. Very nice facilities. Very nice room. Could have lived in the room for five days, but came to see the local sites. Not sure which category buffet breakfast fell under, but it was ok. Not a five-star buffet, but higher than average. Location was excellent. A short walk to everything. Don't go to Bounfeng Lake or the Hunan Culture shows. Total waste of money. Total. (Has nothing to do with the hotel.) . Would definitely stay here again1

location is not far from center of town, room is quite big, amazing view around the hotel, jogging track also nice, room facilities is top, comfortable bed and pillows, staff is friendly and some of them speaks english and very helpful, will definitely stay there again next time in changsha, for family with young children we just need kids playroom, usually other 5 star or 4 star hotel provided kids playroom or kids activities.

We has a nice stay here. It's a great location very close to the park - there are no lines to get in from the entrance on this side. Make sure to ask the hotel staff to give you a pager so they can pick you up from the park when you're done for the day. The park itself is very confusing to get around, and we didn't realize until day 2 that they had a map in the hotel room in Chinese and English (and that you should take the Chinese map with you so you can use it to help the park staff direct you to the right location). They don't really speak English at the hotel, but they make it work with translation apps. The staff were really nice and very service oriented. We had a "butler" who made sure everything we needed was taken care of. Make sure you download WeChat before you go, because this was how we best communicated with him. This place was a real treat.

We arrived almost midnight by airport shuttle bus, alighting at drop-off point at Hunan Civil Aviation Hotel. Turn right, walk about 10 mins is Changsha Mellow Orange Hotel. The room is clean, white bedsheets. No refrigerator in room. Breakfast is very basic. Fried noodles, soupy noodles, salted preserved vegetables, soya bean drink. To the right of hotel, is a MacDonald outlet. Walk about 15 mins is the main train station.I will stay here again next time mainly for the superb location.

Our stay was overall nice. The hotel is really beautiful, being a resort the rooms are separated from the lobby. 5/6 rooms for bungalow. Nicely decorate and huge space. We went in winter so there were not many people. It was low season. Rooms were clean and beutifully decorated. The hotel is rated 5 stars, but if you have experience of hotels in China, you understand that this is a 5 stars chinese. Difficutl to explain but for few reasons the hotel would not get the same rate in Europe. 1) despite being winter and approx to 0 degree celsius, the doors of the restaurants were also kept open. However the room was always warm 2) service was excellent, despite only few of the emplyees could speak english, they were nice and always tried to help out. Nevertheless (at the restaurant) you would see employees laing on a columns or a furniture looking at their mobiles rather than to the customers. 3) Nice lobby but despite the numerous sign forbidding to smoke, they let some of the clients smoking and annoying the others. However i did not bother to ask them to stop...just felt it annoying. 4) A very nice surpise was given by the free shuttle car to and from the hotel. 5) Chinese restaurant was really good and cheap. DO NOT go to the western restaurant and you will avoid a bad experience.

You can be assured of Kempinski hotel standard. The rooms are very typical of a 5 star international hotel, very well kept and modern. Service here is good and the staffs are extremely friendly. The elements restaurant is pretty standard but was a bit disappointed with the spread as when I went to the restaurant at around 1.40 pm for a late lunch, most of the buffet spread is already minimal. Everything was good at the hotel and it is in a good location with lots of food nearby and a huge mall within 10 mins walk from the hotel. Only issue with the hotel was the shower as the water flows out with light shower making the bathroom pretty wet.

The moment we stepped into the lobby, we knew this was an experience. Elegant, smiling Chinese hospitality we had not been able to experience in both Anting Villa Resort and Pullman Shanghai , warm and welcoming, helpful explanations. The room is a spacious 50 sqm, luxuriously comfortable with bedding amenities of 4 pillows each on 2 queen sized beds. In the morning the overlooking of the city view while a breakfast was served, and the luxurious indoor swimming pool and perfect gym with the state of the art technology equipment.... speechless. Our housekeeping staff was just courteous to the letter. We loved everything. Special thanks to the concierge Reese who was a star at every turn.

We asked for non-smoking room but they gave us one with very strong cigarette smell. When we rang the counter they changed our room quickly, and even bigger than the first one. Breakfast was excellent, with a large selection of both western and eastern foods. Staff are very friendly, especially the lady manager who was on duty at night (sorry I did not get her name). Location is good - 15 minutes' walk to the shops. If you need to book a 7 seaters taxi to the railway station or airport, don't book it at the service counter at the hotel - it is very expensive. Just walk outside the hotel and ask any of the taxi driver to book you one (they have contact with Di Di - UBER - drivers). If you book before hand, they will turn up on time, even if you book for the next day. If your air- conditioner gives hot air and it is too hot, forget about contacting the service counter. They cannot do anything. We tried many times and gave up. Just turn it off and open the windows to sleep.

we only stayed one night while visiting my son who is volunteering to teach english in hunan provence. he is located in zhuzhou and wanted to show us changsha city while visiting. this hotel was clean, friendly, warm, and very well located. it had all the western amenities you needed. there was a communication breakdown with the front desk. i had paid for an extra bed (3rd person) to be in the room. the staff brought us an extra comforter and pillow but no bed. my son had to sleep on the floor (which he didn't seem to mind) but we paid us dollars for the extra bed, so i was a bit disappointed. when i brought it to their attention (i called 3 times but the english was poor) they were apologetic. we had to wait until the next day when a manager who could speak english translated our complaint. they reimbursed the extra $40 charge but didn't compensate with a breakfast for the third person which would have been a nice gesture. all in all, the place is great but the english is poor.

Comfortable hotel with helpful staff, but room is pity small. Situated in the city center, this hotel is close to many tourist attraction like Helong Stadium, Hunan Provincial Museum, Martyr's Park and Orange Island Park. Shopping centers and restaurants are within walking distance, Changsa main railway staion can easily reach by many public buses and taking a taxi is about 10rbm.

The location of the hotel was convenient as it was close to the cable car station and there are bus stops right opposite the hotel. However, the Executive Queen Room I stayed in did not have any air conditioning service as the hotel staff said their air conditioning system was centralized and they would not turn them on in Spring. I had to request for an electric fan as the hotel room was very stuffy and hot without any air conditioner. Guests who booked their executive rooms would also be able to enter their executive lounge and entertainment facilities on the executive floor, but they were ALL out of service the whole time I stayed at the hotel which and it was very disappointing.

This was one of my best stays on many trips in China. Check in took a little long but staff was very friendly and the room more than made up for it. Had a good view from the room, bed was very comfortable and there was a bathtub in the bathroom. Hands down best gym I have ever seen in a hotel, well equipped and big with a swimming pool. Staff is very well trained. Great location, close to walking street and well connected to public transport to go pretty much anywhere like the university, Mount Lu and the railway station. Didn't try their breakfast since there's so much food to try in Changsha. Had a fantastic stay.

I actually wrote my review on this hotel 40 minutes after check out but somehow I don't understand its not publish and not in my draft too. Actually I don't have patience to immediately wrote because I love this hotel very much. It's the most luxurious hotel in Zhangjiajie. I never thought the room is so beautiful, Luxurious and cozy. All amenities were high end, the room space about 60m2, Helen upgrade my booking to suite rooms and I appreciated. Bath room with separate shower and bath tub with very high end quality, towels all look very fresh and clean, especially the design of the room and bathroom, hidden closed and fancy table provides accessories looks stunning. Teapot and various types of tea and coffee complete ours stay. Too bad I must check out early due to my airplane schedule, I miss this hotel and definitely be back. We got breakfast but because must check out early we have no chance to try it. Highly recommended and you all will thanks me. The hotel location is very convenient yet quiet (we got the room with balcony to the other side of noisy nightlife places). The room was surprisingly clean. We got the room with 2 balconies, cute tiny living room and standard sized bedroom. The bathroom was clean. No shower gel, shampoo.. but I guess this is general practice in Chinese hotels. During our 9 days travel in Hunan area this is the best hotel at the fairest price we get. Staff however do not speak any English which is quite common in China, thus no help can be expected.

The Hotel is within the heart of Furong, Sheraton Changsha Hotel is an Excellent Hotel which is very near to MRT station. Travelling by MRT was the way i did my traveling to do shopping and visit many interesting places in Changsha but occasionally need to take a Taxi to reach some places in Changsha. This was my first trip to Changsha and overnight stay was very good and comfortable. The room size is good and it is clean and well maintained. In addition, besides,i found that the services provided by the staff is excellent. Great Breakfast and Fitness Centre as well as good Spa. Would highly recommend this Hotel to Friends and my Business associates.

very nice large and comfortable room. the only tiny niggle was the noise the air conditioning made even on low. the staff were excellent and you got the impression they had been well trained to be as helpful as possible. it is near the forest park gate but a 200 rmb taxi ride from the airport at zhangjiajie. i would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to other travellers and would certainly stay there again. the restaurant is extraordinarily cheap for a 5 star hotel and good as well.

The hotel is well located near to the Wulingyuan park entrance. There are more modern hotels that are probably flashier at a higher price, but we were happy with our stay at the State Guest Hotel. The rooms were spacious, clean and well-equipped, although the corridors were run down and dimly lit. Breakfast was Chinese-style buffet and there were few people there so we were able to eat in peace with a view of the mountains through the window. It's worth keeping an eye on the price as it seems quite variable -- we cancelled our booking and rebooked just a few days before the trip and saved about 20%.

This hotel should be called hotel weiwei as she runs the show ! she was on reception all the time and did an amazing job - checking guests in and out, solving any issues...advising on where to go, what to do and even help me with my chinese language. She single handedly deserves the 5 stars ! Beyond her, the location was great and easily accessible to everything. My original plan was to go to Wulianyuan national park and stay around there from day 2 but after such a warm welcome, i decided to stay in the city and commute each day. I am glad i did and hope to return to Zhangjiajie one day. At that time, i hope to return to Hotel California.

WE REACHED CHANGSHA IN THE LATE NIGHT. THE TAXI BROUGHT US TO THIS HOTEL WHICH I BOOKED IN AGODA WITH A PROMOTION PRICE. THE ROOM WAS SPACIOUS TO ACCOMODATE 4 OF US. THE STAFFS WERE SO FRIENDLY AND SO HELPFUL. I WAS GLAD TO FIND NICE STAFFS FOR 5 STARS HOTEL. USUALLY THE STAFFS FOR THIS KIND OF HOTEL ARE ARROGANT. BUT THESE GROUP ARE SO FRIENDLY ... IT WAS UNFORTUNATE WE HAVE TO LEAVE IN THE NEXT DAY TO ZHANGJIAJIE. WE MISSED THIS HOTEL

I truly enjoyed my stay at the White Swan. The hotel itself is fantastic. It is definitely a 4 Star hotel, and the staff goes above and beyond to provide value. Every need I had, they found a way to meet. Language was definitely a barrier, as this hotel is not located in downtown Changsha and they do not get too many English-speaking guests. However, they would always try to figure out what I needed and would quickly locate someone who had at least passable English. The rooms were phenomenal, and unlike many chinese hotels, the bed was very comfortable. The room staff changed all bedding every day, including the comforter. The buffets were pretty good overall. I would not say it was world-class food, but they had a wide variety and most of it was well prepared. The staff was very attentive, and after a few days, they knew many of the things I would ask for and would bring them to me automatically. The only downside to the hotel is it is about a 35 minute taxi from downtown. Not a huge deal, as the fare is about 35-40 yuan, but if you need to get downtown quickly, this location is not convenient. Having said that, I would definitely stay here again.
