Hotels near Place des Jacobins

A very good experience with special thanks to Ms Emile who has guided us on the restaurants, places of interest and transport. Ms Emile went the extra mile by checking restaurants availabilty and booking and guided us on the location which is of much help as we don't speak a single word of French. Everyone at the front desk is superb in their services and really makes you feel at ease especially since we do not speak French.

This was my first hotel in France and when I stepped into the room I thought I was starring in a French comedy. The room had a bed and not much space for anything else; and a bathroom smaller than most wardrobes. However, it's surprising what you can get used to and I quickly adapted to the compact and cosy space. The location is excellent, right by the local and regional transport hub including the train to Paris. The staff were great - typically French in being friendly and helpful. Overall 10/10.

The hotel is a bit old. Also,there are no beds, only sleep sofas, but ours was surprisingly quite comfortable. As others have mentioned, on hot nights with the windows open (and a fan blowing), it can be noisy with drinkers at the nearby cafes. It is easy to walk to Old Lyon, Croix Rousse, and wall mural sites from the hotel. Lots of restaurants nearby, as well as markets and bakeries - for your breakfast makings - as well as good ice cream. If you arrive midday, as we did, about the only place to eat is at the Hippo (Hippopotamus) Restaurant a block away, as most restaurants stopped serving lunch at 2 or 2:30. Take C13 bus from Gare Part Dieu, walk three blocks on the walking street just across from the bus stop (Rue de la Republique), turn right on Rue Tomassin, walk 2-3 blocks until you see an archway over the road with "CITADINES" written on it. You will then be home.

Helpful staff, great room and fantastic location. We use Aagoda for all our travels and are generally happy because the reviews match our expectations. I would recommend this hotel if you want to be close to the best shops and restaurants. Our room looked down into a large plaza which contained a subway entrance. We would have stayed longer but the hotel was sold out because of a soccer match upcoming the next day. Leyon is a wonderful city and the Carlton is right in the middle of best area.

the room offered under the arrangement was not adequate (as of mid-may 2012): * it was un-refurbished, with old (but quaint) decore and appointments, one power point (french) apar from one for the tv, had thin walls, and had a squeeky floor. * and, the bathroom was the smllest imaginable! after entering the tiolet, there was 45cm (measured) between the new 'refurbishment' pipes and the wall, and a red-wine bottle iss 31cm long (measured) so a woman has trouble going past and a man has a sideways slide. tafter a shower, tere is smply no room to practically dry the body in the small space. the window blinds were absolutely not adequate to exclude the morning light. the refurbishment is being actively undertaken, and i expect it to be finished and the hotel fully renewed by about early august 2012. however, i strongly suggest that agoda and its customers do not use this hotel until after the refurbishment is complete, unless you are sure that you can abide these conditions. note: the staff were very helpful and spoke good english. the queen size bed was comfortable. the hotel is centrally placed in the city of lyons, and immediately beside a metro station and a restaurant area. breakfast if offered at 8 euro/person. (we made our own arrangements.)

It is the perfect hotel to stay in if you plan to explore Lyon. Located near the Lyon Perrache station, you just need to be wary of the signs on which exit you’ll take from the train station. The facilities are great, very clean and very comfortable. The place is spacious and the restaurant serves good food. Also, if you’ll travel by Flix Night Bus, the station would be in the front of the hotel. Hassle free with a very fair price.

Best location while in Lyon. It’s walking distance to Lyon’s attractions, shops, transportation, restaurants. Bottled water, coffee/tea, happy hour goodies is complimentary. The room, and toilet (love the tiles) is big with french rustic interiors, french window. Basic amenities available - towels, slippers, robe, shampoo, conditioners , bath soap, lotion, showercap, cotton & buds (no toothbrush though (i have to take note the next time I travel to Europe to bring toothbrush and toothpaste since all the hotels we stayed in Paris did not include this). The reception staff is helpful and accomodating. Umbrellas are available to borrow. Breakfast is good (love the yogurt, and freshly squeezed orange juice). Best of all, it has a lift (small but useful especially if you’re carrying big luggages, and qccompanied by a senior citizen). The only thing that’s amissed is the missing coffee on our third day,.

I stayed 3 nights on the first floor and it was great. The rooms look newly renovated and the shower was lovely. The next 3 nights I was on the 5th floor and my shower didn't work from the ceiling and the room is very dated also it was much noisier in this room. The staff were lovely, breakfast is good. Location is handy and close to pretty places but in each room I only had a view to train tracks. All in all had a good stay.

I chose this hotel for its excellent location in central Lyon 2e arrondissement near Bellecour subway station. It's a short walk across the Saone river to the old town in one direction and across the Rhone in the other direction, and there are many excellent restaurants of every kind nearby. The street Hotel Elysee is on reminds me of 5th Ave. NYC for its many high-end shops. The hotel room itself was modest and spare. I avoided the narrow elevator because I am easily claustrophobic and felt very confined. Otherwise, staff were helpful and nice.

I really liked the location. About 10-15 minutes walk from Lyon Perrache station (which I prefer way more than the Part-Dieu) and 20 minutes to Hotel de Ville. It is an old building so you do hear the neighbour's door and shower etc, but I guess it is normal in this type of building. Even though it was on the main street, the room was quiet and I slept well. No tea making facility in the room. I didn't try the breakfast as 14 euros would be bit over my budget. Cafes are plenty nearby. Nice friendly staff.

I booked through Agoda for the price. I cannot believe the price, for 3 nights with breakfast included. I'm not sure if all the rooms are refurbished, but we were in a refurbished room. It was suberb. The fabrics etc were modern and stylish. The room was clean, as was the bathroom. The bathroom seemed to be like a kit bathroom, like an all in cabin that was installed, but it was superb. One of the best features in the room was a state of the art computer with widescreen that had many features including TV, on demand movies and complimentary Internet access. I rate the location as excellent, this might not be classed as excellent for all, but for those who know Lyon, we arrived by train to Perrache station, and the hotel is 1 minute's walk from here. Even so, it is still only a 7/8 minute stroll to Place Bellecour and of course all the transport systems including Tram and Metro are at Perrache anyway. The only prob we had was a fault with the air con unit, which started leaking water during the 2nd night of 3 and we had to turn it off. This was then Sunday, so the hotel were unable to effect a repair, but we managed to get about 3 hours of air con on the final night before the water started leaking again. This did not affect the stay though - the temp was dropping anyway!!
