Bathroom
At this price point, in the NYC area, your only other real option is a hostel with a shared bathroom, so I was pleasantly surprised when The Baltic turned out to be better than expected. The rooms are spartan but clean and modern. I prefer hard floors in a hotel, as it's easier to tell that they're clean. (The rooms here have polished concrete floors.) The bed was firm (which I also prefer) and towels and linens were clean and in good shape. My room on the 4th floor had an amazing, sweeping view of the Manhattan skyline and I loved that the windows opened to let in some fresh air. You also get an enormous TV and a rainshower - amenities I didn't expect. The picture of my room showed a refrigerator and microwave, which were not present, but both were available to me in the common area. The location is smack dab in the middle of a working class neighborhood, so there is no Starbucks around the corner and you may pass by some places that would make a rural person nervous, but as a city person I never once felt unsafe and it was an easy (and pleasant) walk to shops, restaurants and transit. Overall, I think it's an unbeatable deal for staying in NYC, I loved the local Brooklyn vibe, and I was impressed with the facilities, staff and gourmet bagels at breakfast. Will stay here again.
This is a bare bones room for cheap in a good location, but you’re probably better off spending the extra $10-20 a night for something better. The location was great, but there were no amenities to speak of (no safe, no fridge, barely any room to put clothes). The size wasn’t my issue, I knew it would be small. The amenities weren’t my issue, I knew there wouldn’t be any. My issue? It was a bit run down and it wasn’t very clean. Dents in the wall. Crusted bits in the bathroom. The caulk on the sink completely separating from the wall. Some sort of air freshener scent permeating everything to the point that you smell it in everything you you had in that room. It’s fine as a place to sleep after a night out. But that is also you have quiet neighbors because the walls are paper thin. One night I was awoke by two straight minutes of blood curdling screaming, then was accused of being the source as staff walked the hall trying to pinpoint where it was coming from. It was fine. But I won’t be back.
I stayed at this hotel for 7 days and was very satisfied with my experience. It’s definitely a great choice in terms of price-performance. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and housekeeping was done regularly every day. The staff were friendly and helpful, always doing their best to assist with anything I needed. The location was also very convenient, making it easy to get around.
The Baltic Hotel is a no frills, budget stay like the title suggests. For a clean, comfortable bed to sleep in and a bathroom, it gets the job done. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is located by warehouses and close to the projects (less gentrified portion of Gowanus Brooklyn). But it's also located by a climbing gym and 5 minutes drive from two different Whole Foods to the North and South. I had a great stay overall.

“Great value for money and great service ”
We stayed here for a week. I was concerned with some of the reviews on Google but I can confirm that they are unfounded. My room was if a good size, and although it gave on the street side, it was still quite and pleasant. The room was serviced daily with clean sheets and fresh towels and I was issued loads of toiletries when I asked for more. The reception staff are all very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was good although I advise guests to go in early to be able to grab some delicious fresh bagels and coffee. The breakfast area is quite pleasant and we used it to have our takeaways. I visited NY during a busy week and this hotel was the best value I could find. I was truly not disappointed and it exceeded all my expectations. Transport nearby is excellent and there are hundreds of bars, cafés, restaurants, delicatessen etc to choose from and to suit every budget. I highly recommend this little gem of a hotel if like us, you are looking for great value, a friendly service, clean and decent accommodation as well as great transport and tons of amenities on your doorstep.
